Native Species: Brilliant purple flowers in early spring. Very effective in mass plantings / naturalized settings.  Large, dark green heart-shaped leaves turn bright yellow in fall. Northern bobwhite and songbirds eat the seeds and this tree provides nesting sites and cover for both birds and small mammals.

Fruit Description: This tree produces a pod, brownish black and 2 to 3 inches long.
